Oooh Reno. This print is a possible step in a new direction for me. Cross program use wft?! I started this in Opencanvas and finished it in Painter/PS. First time using painter and it sure was fun. I just have a ton of trouble starting a picture in it. Thats what OC is for now. Painter makes for a much nicer finish though, especially with the camel hair brush(or as I call it the camel toe brush) which almost feels like cheating. See I dont like the technical side of digital painting. You know...filters, weird tools, textures and all that. I just always figured I should be able to paint anything myself. Gotta try new things though.
I made this print for Ohayocon.(which would have killed me with boredom if it hadnt had been for my little Kirby DS and Castlevania PoR) He does look pretty fruity doesnt he?
Oooh, very realistic, dude!
Yah, I have a Painter program too, and it's kind of a task to get things started in there, despite the fact that it has some marvelously fun tools. Painter's zoom in and out feature is annoying for me.
So I kind of feel what you're saying about starting something in OC first, since it's fun and intuitive, then finishing with Painter, since it's tools give a more realistic look to your coloring.
Have not tried the camel hair brush yet, but for lineart, there's a certain pen in Painter that I really like to use, I forget it's name tho, haha! It's been a while!
Either program you use is good, since neither is Photoshop, huh?
Actually I must admit I used PS for for some slight overall color changes >o>.
The camel hair brush is basically a blending tool, although you can use it as a regular brush too. It smooths things out while adding texture at the sametime. Its dangerously addictive as I almost went over the entire picture with it.
